BEITOSTOELEN, NORWAY – FIS has worked closely with FIS Marketing AG and other National Ski Associations to reorganize and minimize the World Cup’s sponsorship model, which above all will serve to introduce consistency to the FIS Cross-Country image and financial allegiances. As of 2011, FIS has narrowed down sponsorship to five major international companies with the addition of Helvetia, the Swiss Insurance agency, as the most recent, fifth, and final sponsor on the list. Among the other companies are the main sponsor Viessmann, in conjunction with BMW, Vattenfall, Craft, and Polar.
This high-end group of sponsors illustrates how much the sport has grown in popularity. FIS Cross-Country Race Director Jürg Capol conveys this notion, stating, “the fact that international companies are among the partners underscores the world-wide value of Cross-Country Skiing. We are pleased with the excellent cooperation during the first season and look forward to having our new partner Helvetia on board.”
The 2011/2012 season will take place in eleven nations and include 76 races, which also incorporates the FIS Tour de Ski to add an additional 10 stages during the turn of the New Year. The season will commences on November 19th in Beitostoelen, Norway.
