BURLINGTON, VT – This past Friday night, Jake Burton, the founder of Burton Snowboards and quite possibly one of the most prominent figures in the snowboarding industry announced the that he has been diagnosed with testicular cancer.

Jake broke the news through a company memo which stated, “The bad news is that I have cancer. The good news is that it is as curable as it gets. What I have is called Seminoma, also known as Testicular Cancer (think Lance Armstrong). I have three months of chemo ahead with the possibility of surgery along the way.”

Testicular cancer is the most common form of cancer in men between the ages of 15 and 35. Seminoma in particular, has a survival rate of over 95% if diagnosed in its early stages according to the National Institue of Health.

The snow sports industry reacted instantly to the solemn news inciting an outpour of sympathy and support to one of its most respected icons.

Burton responded last night via Twitter, “thanks everyone for the good wishes and support”.

We at The Ski Channel are extremely thankful that Jake’s situation is highly curable, and can’t wait till he’s back to 110%!
