WABASHA, MN - After losing sight of what he liked about BMX competition, Anthony Napolitan decided to “rejuvenate his joy for riding” by creating a piece of his own personal heaven: The Red Bull Dream Line.
Aimed to link together the big aspects of the dirt jump and trail riding, Anthony developed an epic course that could be enjoyed by both trail riders and dirt jumpers alike. Situated along the hillside of Coffee Mill Ski Area, the dream line appears to be carved through the hills themselves.
Keeping his friends in mind, Anthony spent all season putting together an event that would shadow any of its kind for years to come. Anthony invited 16 of the best BMX dirt riders in the world to compete in the weekend-long event — the list included Brian Foster, Mike “Hucker” Clark, Cory Nastazio, Dennis Enarson and more. The event offered a dream course with unrestricted trails and jumps built by Red Bull’s master builders Adam Aloise and Dave King.
“He created something that dudes can ride that they are going to be a little bit scared of….but excited about,” explained professional BMX rider Brian Hunt.
Sending the competitors to the moon and back, this trail style course challenged each rider through three days of competition. The self-judged format allowed riders complete freedom to judge with no set criteria. On Friday, sixteen riders competed in two heats of eight. The eight athletes in the non-riding heat judged their peers. The top eight moved on to Saturday’s Finals. Luke Parslow put on a non-stop BMX dirt performance to win the top spot with an onslaught of flip tricks. In a flawless two hour session he killed it with a 360 backflip, a backflip tailwhip and a double backflip. Dennis Enerson took second while Mike ‘Hucker’ Clark took the 3rd spot rounding out the top three positions. While there was prize money to be won, riders focused on finding joy in the freedom from timed runs, pressure of live TV and strict judges. For Anthony this event served as an inspiration for both himself and his friends, all which were able to “ride a piece of heaven.”
