Bear Mountain, CA- You would think that a snowboard contest in 80 degree weather was impossible, unheard of even! Well the good folks at Bear Mountain proved us wrong this past weekend at the 8th Annual Hot Dawgz and Hand Rails competition with over 130 tons of ice, two dozen riders and a crowd to rival any major sporting event.
Hot Dawgz and Hand Rails is the premier summer snowboard event, and this year was no exception. Features included real snow made on site for the 8th Annual Hot Dawgz and Hand Rails, world-class jibs and rails to test the riders’ skills, and for those who are more “party” inclined — a full bar (21 & older), DJs on the deck, vendor booth city, games, as well as tons of giveaways.
When the ground-breaking rides came to an end, the judging panel which included Joe Sexton, JP Walker, Seth Huot, and Lauri Heiskari saw fit to award the following riders in cash and prizes:
Melissa Evans took the $1,000 for the ladies
3rd went Jesse Paul worth $1,000
2nd was taken by Brandon Hobush worth $3,000.
1st went to crowd pleaser Ryan Paul winning $10,000.
So if you find yourself surrounded by colorful people, insane free giveaways, entertaining riders and the faint appearance of sweat on your brow be comforted by the fact that you have arrived at Bear Mountain’s Hot Dawgz and Hand Rails competition. Missed the action this year, no worries we are already counting down the days to see what Clayton Shoemaker, Rio Tanbara, and the rest of the Bear Mountain crew have in store for next year.
