West Dover, VT – Mount Snow’s installation of their new $8.5 million lift this week will incorporate a Sikorsky Construction Helicopter. The lift is to be named the Bluebird Express, so it is only fitting that a ghetto bird take part in the installation process. Helicopters used for resort installations is becoming much more common in ski resorts these days, and with each of the twenty-five lift towers weighing 8,500+ pounds each, its easy to see why. The helicopter pilot will put his experience to the test by fitting the lift towers on bolts the size of wiffleball bats. There will be people on the ground detaching the 80-ft cable from the towers to the helicopter, and setting the towers fully in place.
This helicopter exhibition comes at an important time for Mount Snow and the surrounding residents and businesses, as they try to move on with their lives after the devastation caused by Tropical Storm Irene. Mount Snow will also be running an ad campaign throughout the eastern seaboard to try to bring business to themselves, as well as for the surrounding small businesses. This new lift and also the ad campaign will hopefully do a lot to rejuvenate the economy of the Mount Snow and Vermont area.
