Bonnier Corp. is one of the largest consumer-publishing groups in the United States and is the leading media company serving passionate, highly engaged audiences through magazines, events, digital media and leading-edge products. Terry Snow, Bonnier Corp. CEO, announced today that Ben Rifkin has been promoted to publisher of SKI, Skiing and Skiing Business. Rifkin is a longtime ski-industry leader with business experience in resorts, tourism and media. He’s been with SKI and Skiing for nearly a decade, most recently serving as associate publisher.
Rifkin, a member of the alpine ski team at Dartmouth College, began his career with the magazines as editor of skinet.com. He then pursued an opportunity in the marketing and communications department at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Rifkin returned to the Mountain Group in 2005 as digital sales associate, where he led the Web business to one of the most lucrative years ever. He continued to work his way to the top, holding positions as northeast account manager, digital sales manager and digital ad director.
“Ben has been an integral figure as we have successfully repositioned our two flagship titles within the industry,” says Snow. “He’s a strategic and creative thinker and his leadership as associate publisher has proven he’s the one who should lead these top brands.”
Over the last 18 months, SKI has expanded its coverage to embrace the entire mountain lifestyle among skiers and general winter travelers: the people, places, gear and trends that help readers better enjoy the unique experiences found in the mountains and on the slopes. SKI will continue to incorporate all of the unique lifestyle attributes of the mountains in winter through print, digital and new events platforms.
Skiing is the go-to media resource for adventurous skiers, supplying high quality on-demand gear information, insider resort and backcountry tips, cutting-edge instruction and ski culture updates. Skiing’s unique distribution partnership with specialty ski retailers and industry support programs will continue to expand as the brand grows.
“The changes for SKI and Skiing have been well-received not only by our readers but the advertising community as well,” says Rifkin. “The strong reviews by endemic and nonendemic clients reinforce the commitment we made to our customers and partners to deliver two iconic brands with their own substance and tone.”
In addition to SKI and Skiing, Bonnier’s Mountain Group includes the digital umbrella site skinet.com plus Warren Miller Films, which produces award-winning feature-length snow-sports films in addition to producing television programming.
