Heavenly and Northstar Resorts in Lake Tahoe began making snow last night for the 2011-2012 Winter season.  Both resorts are not scheduled to open until November 18th, but if the cool weather conditions hold up, skiers and snowboarders will be cruising on the best surfaces Tahoe has to offer.

Heavenly has the biggest snowmaking system on the West Coast, and can cover 73% of Heavenly’s trails in machine made snow under the right conditions. So far, snow has been made at the top of the Gondola and on the California trail.

On the other side of the Lake, Northstar began making snow on trails including Main Street, Lower Pioneer, Pinball, Lumberjack, in the Big Easy Beginner learning area, and on Cats Face where Shaun White’s 22’ signature halfpipe will be built.

Northstar has the ability to open up limited terrain with ust 48 hours of snowmaking with the right conditions, and cover 50% of its trails in machine made snow.

The 2010-2011 snow season for both resorts will go from November 18th  2011  to April 15th2012.
