Sunday River on Maine announced Friday that the ski area will officially open the 2011-12 season on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 10:01 a.m. for a three-day weekend through Halloween. The resort hopes to be open on more weekends during the early-season.

The opening will mark the fifth straight year that the ski area has operated a lift on Halloween. The Locke Mountain Triple will carry skiers and boarders to the T2 trail on upper Locke Mountain. An early-season terrain park will also be open.

Lift service will start at 8 a.m. on Sunday and 9 a.m. on Monday. The lifts will close daily at 4 p.m., with the last upload at 3:30 p.m.

Daily lift tickets for Saturday through Monday will be $29 and may be purchased at Barker Base Lodge. Anyone in costume can ski free on Halloween. The resort posted on its website that “dressing as a skier or snowboarder does not count, and if you question the validity of your costume we suggest bringing candy which may help convince the ticket staff.”
