For those who still think skiing is only a sport for the rich and famous, think again. Programs aimed at making winter mountain activities more accessible for children and teens have been popping up across the country and Alaska’s premier ski area – Alyeska Resort – is leading the charge.

Alyeska’s 2011/12 Discover Ski and Snowboard Program is designed specifically to teach the sport of skiing or snowboarding to children ages eight through eighteen in an affordable package and within a safe environment. Registration for the Discover Program begins online Tuesday, November 1, 2011.

In total, there are three program options. Parents can choose from two levels of ski or snowboard instruction or an all-mountain free ski/ride option. The program includes three visits to Alyeska Resort on consecutive Saturdays or Sundays in January, February or April of 2012.
