Stoked Mentoring is hosting its annual benefit, the Stoked Awards, on Wednesday, November 9 at the Union Square Ballroom to honor the achievements of individuals who embody the mission of the New York and LA based non-profit. This year’s award recipients have been selected for their commitment to the organization and their community, while maintaining achievements in their personal and professional careers.
Headlining this year’s award recipients is professional skateboarder, Paul Rodriguez. Rodriguez, better known by fans as P-Rod, will receive the Stoked Achievement Award for his support to help Stoked grow and expand its programs. A well-respected player in the action sports industry for his achievements both in and out of competition, P-Rod will be joining the ranks of past recipients including, Mazdack Rassi, Bob McKnight, Sal Masekela, Tony Hawk and Marc Ecko.
Other honorees at this year’s gala include, Stoked mentor Jeanne Rousseau and mentee Armani Green (Stoked Mentoring Pair Award), Leanne Fonseca (Stoked Volunteer Award) and Ann Kaatz (Stoked Appriciation Award).
Co-founded by Steve Larosiliere and Sal Masekela, Stoked’s mission is to empower youth from under served communities to achieve a more successful future by providing programs based in action sports culture that result in personal development, academic achievement, positive relationships and a healthy lifestyle. To achieve this goal, the Mentoring program uses a combination of action sports (snowboarding, skateboarding, and surfing), mentoring, and after-school programs to teach teens to be successful leaders in their community.
