Thanks to an early abundance of natural snowfall, Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort announced that it will open its doors one day early, on Friday, November 18th!  Snowbird has already received 54 inches of snow this season and officials are expecting another 18-24 inches of fresh powder by the end of the weekend.

“We’ve been working hard to prepare the mountain for the opening of what we hope is another spectacular season at Snowbird,” said Dave Fields, Snowbird Vice President of Resort Operations.

In the wake of pro skier Jaime Pierre‘s death, Snowbird ski patrol has confirmed that it will conduct avalanche-control work on its in-bounds terrain prior to opening on Friday.

Gadzoom chairlift will open at 9 a.m. and close at 4 p.m. Intermediate and advanced terrain will be available on Bassackwards and Big Emma. The remainder of the mountain will be closed to all guests, including hikers.

To encourage skiers and riders to come out early, Snowbird is offering all day tickets at a reduced price of $58 if purchased on the mountain and $46 online. The online special will be available through Friday, November 18th, and the ticket will be honored through until December 23rd. The online price will not be available at the ticket window.

Snowbird’s shuttle will be running to transport guests to and from Gad Valley and Snowbird Center from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Creekside Day Lodge will be open from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

Open for 202 days of skiing and riding in 2010-11, Snowbird offers the longest season in Utah. For more information about Snowbird, including Early Bird Stay, ski lodging, and lift packages, visit:
