Winter Ignite: A Week Long Opening Celebration Kicks Off at Heavenly

South Lake Tahoe’s Heavenly Mountain Resort ignited the winter season today as it opened its doors for the first time this season and kicked off its week-long celebration, Winter Ignite!

On the mountain, skiers and snowboarders were in for a real treat as Heavenly opened 24 acres of skiable terrain with some of the best conditions the resort has ever seen this early in the season! Visitors also got to test drive EpicMix – Vail Resorts’ updated ski and snowboard application – which allows skiers and riders to have both portrait and actions shots taken by Vail’s professional photographers. The images are automatically sent to the guest’s EpicMix account when the photographer scans the guest’s RF-enabled lift ticket or season pass.

After a long day on the slopes, the party moved to the Tamarack Lodge for the region’s highest-elevation après ski party. Entertainment includes, Heavenly Angels, MontBleu DJ David Aaron, drink specials and prizes.

Later tonight the festivities continue at the casino where guests can grab dinner and to catch the premiere of Warren Miller’s latest movie, “…Like There’s No Tomorrow,” directed by Max Bervy, which will be showing on the 18th and the 19th. There will also be a concert by Grammy-winning American blues and rocker Jonny Lang.

For all those who made it out for opening day – congrats!  For everyone else, do not panic because the fun continues all week with wild parties, music, entertainment and giveaways, culminating with a pool party inside MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa and a concert by British alt-rockers BUSH on November 26, 2011.

“There is so much cool stuff going on, we had to stretch the week into nine days to fit it all in,” said Pete Sonntag, Heavenly’s general manager. “Heavenly is the place for people who want to go ‘all in’ on their vacation. We’re setting the bar high to kick things off and will have a steady stream of adrenaline going all year long.”

Heavenly will operate for skiing and snowboarding, weekends from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. In addition to the traditional ski trails, Heavenly will offer a full terrain park on Ante Up run, including two jumps and a number of features. Gondola sightseeing and on-mountain dining at Tamarack Lodge are also open. All access to the mountain will be through the Heavenly Village Gondola.

Bottom line: start your season off right by skiing or riding at Heavenly during opening week…the Winter Ignite festivities should not be missed!
