The Sprint U.S. Grand Prix series kicks off its 16th season this week, December 7 – 10, at Colorado’s Copper Mountain Resort! For the fourth year running, Copper will host the first stop of the tour, which is touted as one of the longest-standing and celebrated tours in action sports history. This year promises to be bigger and better then ever before as top freeskiers and snowboarders from around the globe return to the world-stage in Copper’s pristine 22-foot halfpipe.
It all starts with halfpipe skiing on Friday, Dec. 9, when U.S. champs Devin Logan (West Dover, Vt.) and David Wise (Reno, Nev.) and pros like X Games champion Jen Hudak (Salt Lake City) will take to the slope in their quest for the title of overall winner.
Then, on Saturday, Dec. 10, top riders like Olympic bronze medalist Kelly Clark (Mt. Snow, Vt.), Olympic bronze medalist Scotty Lago (Seabrook, N.H.) and Olympic silver medalist Hannah Teter (Belmont, Vt.) will show the world what they have been working on all summer long.
In addition to the Grand Prix’s Freeski and Snowboard Halfpipe events, the weekend line-up includes the Paul Mitchel Progression Session – a street style rail jam; the North Face Junior Jam and a free concert by Digital Underground. Not to be missed will be the formal public announcement of the 2012 U.S. Freeskiing and U.S. Snowboard team on Friday at 4pm, where many U.S. athletes from both halfpipe and slopestyle will be present!
Copper Mountain Resort makes the ideal location for the Sprint U.S. Grand Prix, where spectators can catch all the action from Burning Stones Plaza. For those who aren’t able to attend the event, a live webcast will show all the action of the weekend starting today with the Freeskiing Qualifiers.
So, tune in…you won’t want to miss this!
