Irene-Battered Mount Snow Resort Kicks-Off Season and Unveils $9 Million in Capital Improvements This Saturday, December 10th!

Just over three months after Tropical Storm Irene ravaged Southern Vermont, Mount Snow Resort is opening its doors for the 2011/2012 ski and snowboard season! This Saturday, December 10th, the resort invites guests to kick-off the season with a full-day of festivities, including a blueberry pancake breakfast, ribbon cutting ceremony, VIP speakers and a lift line party.

The resort will also unveil the more than $9 million in capital improvements it was able to complete during the off-season, despite enduring the worst natural disaster to hit the area in decades. Among the upgrades is the installation of the Bluebird Express — the only high speed detachable six passenger bubble lift in North America — which will whisk guests to the mountain’s 3,600′ summit for the first time on Saturday at 9:00am.  The bubble chair provides guests protection from the elements similar to a gondola cabin, but with the convenience and comfort of being able to keep their skis and boards on their feet.

Tropical Storm Irene ripped through Vermont in August 2011 flooding the Mount Snow Valley, washing away roads and severely damaging businesses and homes. Mount Snow anticipates that same Valley to be flooded with people this weekend as many businesses have re-opened their doors, all roads have been repaired and the exciting addition of the Bluebird Express will attract visitors from across the United States and around the world.
