SnowSports Industries America (SIA), 686 and Malakye.com are partnering up again this year to bring back the popular RECLAIM Project for the 2012 SIA Snow Show. The project was introduced at the 2011 Snow Show, and is essentially a design contest to foster budding talent with a focus on promoting environmental activism. The upcoming show is set to go down on January 26-29th, and will feature three handpicked up-and-coming outerwear designers from across the United States. The set-up? During a 72 hour period between the 26th and 28th the designers are tasked to assemble an original piece of snow wear clothing using “reclaimed” materials to create something new out of what was once old.
686 will provide the contestants with reclaimed materials, trimmings and spare parts from their production facility. The three designers will be located in booth #3317 right in the middle of the show’s snowboard section — making them highly accessible to the event’s attendees and competitor’s mentors. The RECLAIM Project celebrates the creativity, functionality and longevity of our industry, developing a channel for encouraging and finding new talent.
“We are looking forward to the second installment of the RECLAIM Project at SIA,” says Michael Akira West, president and creative director at 686. “We had a very talented pool of designers enter the contest last year and it made for a full and creative atmosphere. This year, the RECLAIM Project is on the Show floor, so we’re hoping to drive even more traffic and attention to the future talent of our industry.”
Snow Show attendees will be able to watch the designers in action and see the live judging by a panel of industry experts. The RECLAIM Project winner will be announced on Saturday, January 28th at 5PM during a party celebrating all the designers and their creations. The winning designer will receive an internship at 686 and many other incredible prizes!
To enter, contestants must submit their design entries to firstname.lastname@example.org NO LATER THAN JANUARY 9, 2012.
