Northstar and Heavenly Open Up for More Action in Tahoe

Tahoe’s Northstar and Heavenly are spreading the love with the best snow conditions and most open terrain at Lake Tahoe. Continuous upgrades in snowmaking systems combined with cold temperatures have made excellence possible at both resorts.

Northstar will open the Backside Express life with 2 more trails allowing access to 1,800 vertical feet. Top-to-bottom skiing and riding is up and running for beginner, intermediate, and advanced terrain with padded snow depths of 18-24 inches.

“Thanks to the commitment by our snowmaking and grooming teams, and the improvements to our snowmaking system, we’ve been able to provide our guests with the most consistent, reliable conditions in the region,” said Bill Rock, chief operating officer at Northstar. “We’ve already made significant progress on other parts of the mountain, and as temperatures continue to cooperate, skiers and riders can expect us to open more terrain soon.”

Northstar has proved to be so impressive that the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) moved both the Fall Rally and Snowboard Resort Trainer Events from Alpine Meadows to Northstar.

Heavenly has the West Coast’s largest snowmaking system ramping up the California mountainside. The Nevada side will have the Stagecoach Express,

Olympic Express, and Northbowl Chair open early next week. To hold eager riders over, the Ante Up Terrain Park has been expanded and jumps are now in the 40 to 50 foot range.

“When you talk about quality conditions at Lake Tahoe going into the holidays, the conversation begins and ends with Vail Resorts,” said Pete Sonntag, Heavenly’s general manager. “Snow surface conditions on our open trails are fantastic, and the re-built Ante Up Terrain Park is a legitimate, mid-season park.”

The smartest way to take advantage of both Northstar and Heavenly is to get on the Lowest Price Guarantee lift ticket bandwagon. If you buy online at snow.com/lifttickets or through Vail Resorts Central Reservations, lowest prices for the day are guaranteed (when purchased 7 days in advance). Not only that but Northstar is offering Ski and Stay Free lodging packages at $115 per person, per night, and Heavenly is offering 50% off lodging and a free day of skiing or riding (before Christmas).
