Powder Days in Aspen/Snowmass During The Best Week EVER

Its been a funny season so far, after the early October snowfall Mother Nature had us all convinced of another La Nina. However, if  you look around most resorts there has been very little precipitation as of late. That is NOT the case in Aspen/Snowmass! ‎They’ve got 2,092 acres, 160 trails, 25 lifts & 4 mountains open for business and its all covered in fresh powder. The slopes of Aspen, Snowmass, Buttermilk and The Aspen Highlands all have between a 20” and 33” base, and have seen a ton of fresh snowfall all week long!

Those who know Aspen best are calling this the best week ever, and there’s good reason why! The ideal weather has provided skiers and snowboarders a ton of bluebird powder days, which also means the staff is able to consistently roll out new skiable areas. So far they’ve got just about all terrain in play including the Aspen Highlands which celebrated their opening this past weekend on December 9th.

Aspen/Snowmass has undergone a series of improvements this year to better serve their visitors. This week Buttermilk saw the opening of a new Ski Patrol HQ with some phenomenal views. They also celebrated the opening of Tiehack Express, a new high-speed chairlift that will get skiers and snowboarders up to the peak in 7 minutes flat! Wondering who got the first chair? It was none other than Klaus Obermeyer, the 91 years young, yoeldeling founder of outerwear company, Sport Obermeyer. Klaus is an icon in the ski industry and local hero on the slopes of Aspen. Obermeyer does his best to ski everyday, his motto is, “The days you don’t ski, you don’t get back.”

The openings didn’t stop there! Friday saw the grand reopening of the always-popular Merry-Go-Round Lodge at the Aspen Highlands. The Merry-Go-Round is a staple for the resort, and even though it underwent over $6 million in renovations to give it a super sweet modern overhaul — the lodge still has that same unmistakeable atmosphere that made it a favorite mountain-side destination. Not only is it cutting edge in terms of comfort and design — but its extremely energy efficient and built with enviromental practices in mind!

Check the below video recaping both openings hosted by Aspen’s Jeff Hanle.

Aspen/Snowmass is stockpiling powder like Scrooge McDuck and his “Money Bin”!  Unlike the penny pinching McDuck, Aspen is more than happy to share the wealth and encourages you to come dive headfirst into their piles of white gold.

Come join the fun!
