Reports have been released stating that Kim Jong-il, the eccentric dictator of North Korea, has died of heart failure. He was 69. There have been multiple reports of health issues over the past few years, but somehow he managed to persevere — up until now.
Even though he was a notorious character in the international community and instigated his fair share of conflicts with his affinity for nuclear weapons, his country remains extremely upset to learn of his passing and are immediately rallying around Kim Jong-il’s son as the new successor to power. It will be interesting to see what comes out of this change of management.
Kim Jong Il was also well known for his interests in the finer things of life. Despite his country’s widespread poverty and persistent economic instability, the Il family pursued interests ranging from wine collecting to a rumored private ski resort. Hopefully, this secret (if true) doesn’t die with the dictator. Who knows: maybe relations will improve and one day we’ll have a ski shoot in Pyongyang? Flights to Seoul are probably a steal this time of year.
