The first stop of the 2011-12 Winter Dew Tour Nike Open wrapped up in Breckenridge, Colorado today, Friday, December 19th, with Tom Wallisch claiming top honors in the free-ski slopestyle competition.

With four jumps and three urban rail features, the men’s freeski slope finals offered up a course that many of the top athletes – including Wallisch – found challenging.  After a fall during his first run though, Wallisch thrived.

With the pressure on and in front of a packed crowd of Dew Tour fans, Wallisch delivered a near-perfect, clean and stylish  second run, which earned him an all-time record-tying score of 92.75 and the gold medal!  The winning run consisted of a 270 pretzel 270 off into a blind 360 switch-up, switch right 900 high mute, double cork 1080 high mute, blind 450 wall ride and back to back switch left to switch right double cork 1080 japan grabs.

One of the oldest competitors in ski slope at 24 years old, Wallisch took first over Nick Goepper, who finished second with a score of 88.00, and Alexis Godbout, who finished third with a score of 87.00. Wallisch’s win today, marks his third tour win and he is hungry for more.

“It always feels good to land a run. I like landing the first run to take some pressure off, but that pressure gets your heart going. The adrenaline was good. There was a lot of pressure, but I was able to come through and I’m happy,” said Wallisch following the win, “I’ve had a couple Dew Tour wins in my career. Going for the Dew Cup is awesome and a big goal of mine.”

Entering its fourth year, the Winter Dew Tour showcases the world’s top athletes across eight disciplines as they compete for the coveted Dew Cup. The Cup is awarded at the end of the season to the athlete who has earned the most cumulative points in his/her respective discipline. 2010-11 Dew Cup champions include Louie Vito (men’s snowboard superpipe), Kelly Clark (women’s snowboard superpipe), Torstein Horgmo (men’s snowboard slopestyle), Jamie Anderson (women’s snowboard slopestyle), Kevin Rolland (ski superpipe) and Bobby Brown (ski slopestyle).

The Winter Dew Tour’s next stop is the Dew Tour Pantech Invitational in Killington, Vermont, which runs from January 19th – 22nd, followed by the Toyota Championships at Utah’s Snowbasin Resort from February 9th-12th.
