The Marker Volkl Freeski Team showed itself to be in ideal competition shape at the first stop of the Winter Dew Tour (at Brekenridge’s Nike Open). Brekenridge is the ultimate training ground for freeski professionals so the first event of the 2011/12 Winter Dew Tour attracted plenty of A-list athletes.

Two Marker Volkl Freeski Team members, Nick Goepper and Rush Henshaw, were among 12 finalists in this past Sunday’s men’s slopestyle finals. 17-year-old Goepper finished fourth place in the qualification round and started as a dark horse before ramping it up to a podium finish. A highlight run of a switch 270° on blind 270° out at the down-rail, rodeo onto the down-box, switch right dub 9, left dub 10, 810° out at the up-rail, switch left dub 9 and finally right dub 12 over the last kicker, earned him a score of 88.0. By the end of the competition, only Tom Wallisch surpassed Goepper and so the Volkl star finished in second place (ahead of Alexis Godbout in third place).
Volkl’s other member, Henshaw made his first appearance this season after an extensive injury break from a torn crucial ligament last spring. The freshly recovered professional made four perfect jumps with three double corks in every run. He finished in an encouraging fifth place and looks to continue his inspiring form onwards into a great season. The Marker Volkl Freeski Team has had a great start to the season and will definitely be making heads turn on the freestyle circuit this winter.
