Earlier this week, the legendary ski mountaineer Chris Davenport embarked upon a journey to the Elk Mountains to achieve yet another first decent, adding to his already long list. Setting up his campsite precariously close to the edge, Chris would let nothing stand in the way getting the first run — he wouldn’t even risk straying a few feet from his prize.
And so Davenport awoke before the rest of skiiers and snowboarders to make his ascent. Just as he was about to complete his climb, a wild X-Games Medalist by the name of Torin Yater-Wallace came out of nowhere to snatch the first decent of the The Buttermilk……. Superpipe?!?!?
While it is still up in the air on whether “The Dav” or Yater-Wallace will have their name etched in the history books to mark this momentous day, it is a certain fact that The Buttermilk Superpipe is 22-feet of ill-nasty and open for business!
Where will the fledgling sport of “Superpipe Mountaineering” go from here? That is a question we will just have to wait and find out!
