January is the National Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month, and that means there is no longer an excuse for reluctant new skiers and snowboarders to get out to the mountain. At Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley both resorts will celebrate Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month by offering super affordable beginner learn-to-ski and ride packages for $39!

The package includes a half day lesson starting at 10am and going until 1pm, a lift ticket and even equipment rentals! To have a complete package at such a low price breaks down the barriers to getting on the slopes for your first time and makes learning to ride an enjoyable experience.

“Whether you’re a first-time skier or rider or simply looking to advance your skills, this is a great time to get out on the hill when the crowds have died down after the holidays,” said Dee Byrne, director of snow sports. “Our experienced instructors will provide the foundation you need to develop proper technique and will have you falling in love with the sport.”

The coolest part about Squaw and Alpine’s learn to ski package is the $130 Three-Day Progression Package. This package gives new skiers and snowboarders the option to upgrade from the $39 base set-up and continue their progression for an additional two days. The Progression Package consists of three days of lessons that start at 10am and go until 3:30pm. You of course also receive rental gear and lift tickets for all three days. The best part is you can spread these days out over the course of the season, and progress at your leisure.

If you miss Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month, newbies can also choose the First Time Skier/Rider Package throughout the rest of the season. For $159, students will gain an introduction to the basics of skiing and snowboarding which includes turning, stopping and riding lifts at a comfortable pace. The package consists of lessons from 10am-3:30pm, lift ticket and rental gear. There is also an option of learning in the afternoon from 1:30-3:30pm as part of the Afternoon First Time Skier/Rider Package which is slightly less expensive at $119. As in the other January packages, if you crave more education you can always upgrade to the Three-Day Progression Package.

You’ll be trained by some of the top talents in professional ski and snowboard instruction. The resorts are so confident in their staff’s abilities they offer a “Learn to Turn” guarantee!
