With all the excitement for the possibility of snow in southern California’s big resorts, it is easy to forget that Vermont is already off to a good season. In particular, Stratton Mountain Resort is just coming off a good storm and lookin ahead with more powder in its future.

Their new Middlebrook park run has twice as many jumps as last year, the intertube park is open, and there are many other activities like snowshoeing and cross country skiing to keep the whole family busy.

This weekend there will be a a variety of different competitions, from J1, J2 and Masters to the renowned Stevek Mogul Challenge. Get in on the need for speed! Stop by the Nastar course on Suntanner this weekend from 11:30am-3pm for your chance to run the gates. Fee: $1 in quarters.

Also, the snowshoe event of the winter benefiting Susan G. Komen is back Saturday, January 28. Last year’s benefit raised an extraordinary $80,000+ for breast cancer research. The Romp to Stomp is a 3k or 5k snowshoe tour through Stratton’s wooded Nordic trails.

But for the meantime, check out these pics
