Smith Optics and Recon Instruments Present the I/O Recon Goggle: Welcome to the Future

Posted By: The Ski Channel on January 21, 2012 7:06 am

Earlier this week, The Ski Channel reported that, thanks to a partnership between market leaders Smith Optics and Recon Instruments, a new generation of goggles is on the horizon…and now, we are happy to follow-up with some much needed detail! The best part? These goggles look to be just as good, if not better, than we originally thought. Here is the scoop…

The new I/O Recon Goggle from Smith Optics utilizes industry leading technology and design to create a comfortable, performance goggle with unprecedented technological integration. The goggles alone boast a host of top-of- the-line features including, a quick release lens system, patented Vaporator lens technology with PorexTM Filter, 5X anti-fog inner lens, 3-layer, DriWix Face Foam, and two performance mirror lenses.

Add in the MOD Live features and it becomes abundantly clear why these goggles will dominate the marketplace. Utilizing Recon Instruments’ direct-to-eye technology, an in-lens LCD screen connects skiers and riders to their smart phone via Bluetooth® to read texts, weather conditions, emails and more right inside their goggles! Athletes can also track their speed, jump analytics, altitude, distance, location and temperature all within the lens of the goggle. Finally, never be late for lunch again with the markedly innovative navigation and Resort Points of Interest features. Chrono and buddy tracking, run counting, and music playlist management can also be accomplished when sporting the I/O Recons.

The bottom line: Just as Apple’s iPhone redefined consumer expectations for the mobile phone, the new I/O Recon Goggle promises to set a new standard  for the way skiers and snowboarders think about on-mountain eye wear.  The latest and greatest from Smith Optics is truly groundbreaking.

Keep in mind though, greatness does not come cheap…so, start saving your allowance!  The I/O Recon Goggle is set to go on sale in November 2012 for $650.  If you can’t wait that long, check them out now at the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market Show (Booth #32051) in Salt Lake City or next weekend at the Snow Industries America (SIA) Show (Booth #28278) in Denver.

In the meantime, check out the following pages for a video introduction to the I/O Recons’ futuristic features!
