The Winter X Games, Aspen 2012 have begun! The Ski Channel is in Colorado covering this exciting week for winter sports.

Thursday morning, January 26th, marked the official start of elimination rounds for this year’s games, at Aspen’s Buttermilk Resort. This extreme competition features the best freeskiers and snowboarders from around the world, showing off new tricks on the best slopestyle course built yet, and the ultimate superpipe — a guarantee for an amazing show. This year will also crown a Snowmobile Best Trick specialist, and Snowboard Street champion.

The final rounds of men’s and women’s ski slopestyle are streaming NOW online. WATCH THE X GAMES LIVE!

Men’s Ski Slopestyle Elimination began at 12:30pm ET, featuring all-star skier Bobby Brown kicking it off with a double cork 1080 and double cork 1260 on the money booter his first run! Bobby Brown has two X Games gold medals, and has tons of pressure to make the podium again this year. The rookie to watch this year is USA’s Nick Goepper, a 17-year-old skiing machine out of Indiana. His switch 900 followed by big floaty backflip woke up the crowd this morning. The big guys will have to look out for this rookie threat.

We have also seen a handful of frightening falls, evermore terrifying with the MegaMo slow-motion replays, as ski patrol keeps busy taking care of the athletes on this icy day. Do not knuckle these jumps, especially the money booter! The course is unrelenting, and the cat rolls it over keeping it super firm. Lindsey Jacobellis, 7-time X Games gold medalist for Snowboarder Cross, blew out her knee yesterday during boardercross practice and will not be competing in the games, opening up the number-one spot for her competitors. However, the sun is out and the Aspen course if sure to soften up over the course of the day.

Do not miss the action; this year’s X Games will raise the bar for freestyle athletes everywhere.
