Just when we thought we’d seen it all, the king of action sports toots his horn and sends it huge in Aspen’s halfpipe in order to break his personal records. The Superman of SuperPipe, Mr Shaun White, has dazzled the world with his huge airs and video-game inspiring tricks. They keep getting bigger, and we may be asking him to slow down already so we can keep up. He set a new bar for snowboarding last night in Aspen by scoring a perfect 100 in X Games Snowboarding SuperPipe. He takes home gold for the event, his fifth X Games gold medal win for SuperPipe. He is the only snowboarder to ever five-peat in X Games SuperPipe history.

Shaun nailed his first run on Sunday night. The crowd at Buttermilk went wild as he popped out 18 feet on his first hit, maintaining comparable amplitude throughout his run and unveiling the new trick – a frontside double cork 1260. He fell attempting the trick in Run 2, then nailed it on the final wall of his victory lap in a run that included a massive 18-foot backside air, a fronstside double cork 1080, a Cab double cork 1080, a frontside stalefish 540, a double McTwist 1260 and the frontside double cork 1260. White is officially the only person to have ever landed a frontside double cork 1260 in competition.

The superstar could have taken a mellow victory lap on his final run, but instead he took advantage of the clean and freshly cut Buttermilk pipe and went for it — scoring the first ever perfect 100 in X Games.

“It’s unreal,” White said. “I’ve been wanting that 100 forever. Thank you so much, everybody. I came here on a mission.”

Swiss shredder Iouri Podladtchikov scored 93 points winning silver, and Japan’s Ryo Aono finished with 86 points for bronze.

See why Shaun received a perfect 100:

Fans were worried when Shaun was spotted limping around Aspen with a sprained ankle. He had to no-show the Slopestyle event, a huge bummer considering his confidence in his run. After icing and elevating, Shaun returned to the top of the course for SuperPipe practice, stomping a huge frontside double cork 12. It was game on!

“I couldn’t compete in Slope and it kind of broke me,” Shaun admitted. “I didn’t know what to do. I was sitting around icing my ankle wondering if I could even ride tonight, and I kind of took out a little bit of that anxiety and anger that I couldn’t compete in Slope in the pipe tonight.”

He had mentioned that he traveled to Aspen this year with Snowboarding Slopestyle on his mind, but we’re sure he will take the perfect score in the pipe and let the rest of the world compete for Slopestyle medals. There is always next year…
