The Jackson Hole 888 Powder Plan for America

Say what you will about Herman Cain’s failed run for the Republican nomination, his 9-9-9 Plan for America was a source of huge success for his campaign and propelled him into the national spotlight. The American public just cannot resist a good catch phrase! Jackson Hole has recently released their 8-8-8 Plan; rather, Mother Nature has released the 8-8-8 Plan upon the resort’s terrain. Over the past 8 days there have been over 80 inches of fresh snowfall, leaving Jackson Hole Mountain Resort with a luxurious 80-inch base!

Bob Comey, Director of Bridger Teton Avalanche Center gave the storm it’s quirky title, “I’m calling it the “Herman Cain Storm”, the “888 Storm of 2012″. The “Herman Cain Storm of 2012″ has earned the title of biggest storm of the 21st century for the Teton Range, only being topped by the 100” storm back in 1976 which shut the mountain down for more than a week! Comey confirms, “It’s one of the best storms we’ve ever had since I’ve been measuring snowfall here for the last 20+ years.”

The resort currently has all 116 of its trails open and is served by 11 of its 12 lifts. There are going to be blue bird days throughout the mid-week, with a new storm rolling in for the late week and into the weekend that should drop some additional inches across the already powdery terrain.

Now would definitely be the time to book some last minute travel arrangements to stake your claim on some of this fresh snowfall. Jackson Hole Mountain Resort has some spectacular specials going on which includes the “Fourth Flies Free” special. Visitors who buy three plane tickets to Jackson Hole will get a fourth plane ticket free when also purchasing five or more room nights and ski lift tickets.

If you make it into town by this weekend there is a Nordic Race Clinic being held on Saturday, February 4th. Novice and veterans alike can refine their skate ski technique and learn efficient new methods for $35. Participants will be guided by Jackson Hole Nordic Center coaches and will even learn how to properly prep and wax their skis in the workshops. You will have the option of bringing your own skate ski equipment or take advantage of half-price ski rentals, which will be made available. Interested? Make sure you register by 12pm on Friday, February 3rd to ensure you do not miss out!

There’s also enough coverage to safely tackle “America’s scariest ski slope”, Corbet’s Couloir. Riding this famous powder stash is considered a rite of passage for expert skiers and snowboarders and holds the #4 spot on the top fifty things for skiers to do before they die.

Regardless of your motives, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort has got some of the best snow in the nation right now, and it is going to be the place to be this weekend.

Bob Comey says it best, “The skies have cleared, the snow is deep, and the skiing is REALLY GOOD!”
