Echo Mountain is prepping for some big moves this weekend. The young mountain is hosting its first ever SnowDash on Saturday February 4th followed by The Evergreen Winter Festival later on the same day.
SnowDash is going to be a 5k-adventure race presented by Fit 5280. The competition pits over 1000 competitors against a grueling obstacle course that will test their strength, endurance, mental toughness and lung capacity. The first wave of racers will set off at 8:45am and immediately face off against 5k worth of tire obstacles, uphill sprints, crawling through powder pits and navigating steep terrain. Sounds fun right?!?
“It’s definitely going to be a challenge for even the most elite athletes,” stated Levi Scullion of Fit 5280. “Never before has a course like this been designed at this altitude (over 10,000 feet) in these types of conditions. People have raced in similar events featuring mud, water and obstacles, but the alpine conditions present their own, unique challenges.”
There is still time to register for SnowDash this weekend — however — space is limited. Thos who are interested can visit snowdashcolorado.com to register or to learn more about the inaugural event.
In order to accommodate for the SnowDash event, Echo Mountain will be closed to the public for skiing and snowboarding until 1pm on Saturday.
Once the dash concludes and the obstacle course is dismantled the Echo Mountain team will head 12 miles down the mountain to participate in the inaugural Evergreen Winter Festival at Evergreen Lake. The festival is presented by Evergreen Park and Recreation District and is held in celebration of everyone’s favorite season — winter!
The Evergreen Winter Festival will kick off at the Evergreen Lake Park at 10am sharp and will be the location for various free events during the day. Featured events will include a snow mountain bike race, snow sculptures, sleigh rides, an awesome Snow Castle play area for kids and unique winter sports. In addition to great events, the festival will include hot drinks, fire pits, a winter beer garden, seasonal food and shopping from a wide variety of local vendors. Ice-skating will also be open to the public throughout the day.
“The Winter Festival at Evergreen Lake is all about getting outside to play local,” declared Scott Robson, head of the Evergreen Parks and Recreation District. “Any modest proceeds resulting from this event will go back into the Evergreen Park and Recreation District parks and recreation programming.”
Once the sun begins to set the Winter Festival will transform into a nighttime celebration. There will be live music courtesy of Sauna, a rail jam competition and even fireworks to cap it all off! The rail jam is presented by Echo Mountain and will showcase some of the top talents in skiing and snowboarding from the surrounding area. Competitors will duke it out on the custom-built course for prizes and a cash purse.
Entry tickets for the nighttime festivities, including the Rail Jam, fireworks, ice-skating and music, are $10 for adults, $7 for students (ages 13-20) and free for children (12 and under). To purchase tickets or for more information, visit evergreenwinterfestival.com
