The Fire & Ice Festival Brings the Cold Wars Rail Jam & Red Bull Buttercup to Stratton

President’s Day weekend is one of the most popular times of the season for Stratton Mountain Ski Resort. The annual February break makes for the perfect opportunity for skiers and snowboarders to shrug off the worries of their daily grind and get out to the slopes for some good times and even a little hot cocoa. Since it is the 50th anniversary for Stratton, the resort is set to pull out all the stops for the February Fire and Ice Festival. Starting on Saturday, February 18th, the mountain is planning to commemorate each passing decade with theme days along with activities, games and crafts the entire family will love. There are also a number of movie nights from each decade the mountain has existed and fireworks that will light up the starry Vermont sky.

There are some absolutely fantastic events coming up. On Saturday, February 18th the 1960′s themed weekend will feature the Cold Wars Rail Jam Competition. Registration is from 9am-10: 30am in the overflow room, with the riders meeting at 10:45 at the top of Tyrolienne. The competition kicks off at 11am where riders will surely make big moves to win the grand prize.

Following the Cold Wars is the annual Red Bull Butter Cup competition, held the following Saturday, February 25th. The theme of the weekend will be the 2030′s — what this will entail in terms of wardrobe will be anyone’s guess. One thing is for certain; it’s going to be flashy! The Butter Cup competition is held throughout the nation by Red Bull and is dedicated to featuring runs that embrace creativity in technical flatland trickery. The competition was born in the northeast back in 2009 and strives to take us all back to the basics of what made you originally fall in love with shredding. The course will feature some uber-cool custom Red Bull butter pads for you to cut loose and dump your bag of tricks on. Registration for this event will be held from 10am-12pm, entry is $10 for amateurs and $20 for professionals. Do not miss this one!
