Winter Dew Tour: Toyota Championships in Snowbasin – February 9-12

Posted By: The Ski Channel on February 3, 2012 9:29 am

The climactic finish of the Winter Dew Tour is coming up next weekend with the Toyota Championships at Utah’s Snowbasin. The world’s most elite action sports athletes will assemble to compete for the coveted Dew Cup. Champion athletes such as Tom Wallisch, Torin Yater-Wallace and Kaya Turski will be pulling out all the stops in snowboarding and freeskiing superpipe and slopestyle disciplines.

Look for tight competition within the Men’s Freeski Superpipe, as this season has seen more than one athlete throwing down championship lines on multiple occasions. Kevin Rollan holds a very narrow lead in the Tour standings, but is still a favorite to repeat his 2011 Dew Cup performance. Torin Yater-Wallace is fresh off the very first Dew Tour win of his professional career, and has a solid chance at claiming the cup if he podiums once more. The Freeski Slopestyle Dew Cup practically has Tom Wallisch’s fingerprints on it after his two first place finishes this season, that is unless Nick Goepper, who has ended up on the podium twice this year as well usurps Wallisch of his lead. Goepper is one sensational run away from snatching the Cup if Wallisch has any faults in his usually meticulous performance on the course.

The top female freeskiers are competing for a Dew Cup for the first time in Winter Dew Tour history! A few short weeks ago, the women met at the Pantech Invitational for a small glimpse of what they would be pitted against for the championship title. Maddie Bowman claimed the top spot on the superpipe podium, but the level of competition is so close that the women’s title is completely up for grabs as well. Kaya Turski is covering ground fast coming into the Toyota Championships. She won the Pantech Invitational and claimed an X Games gold medal in two whirlwind weekends. Hot on her heels is Devin Logan and Emilia Wint — these champions of freeskiing have a chance to be the first female Freeski Slopestyle Dew Cup recipient — they will be skiing for women everywhere.

To top of an already exciting weekend of competitions and high flying fun, the Winter Dew Tour will be hosting a FREE Mac Miller concert on historic 25th Street in downtown Ogden on Friday, February 10, at 9:00pm.  Mac Miller grew up in Pittsburgh with a musical aptitude that already far surpasses most other hip-hop lyricists.  His August 2011 debut “K.I.D.S.” took the music industry by storm, earning critical acclaim from well-respected hip-hop magazines and websites.  Mac’s upbeat rhymes are sure to hype the Winter Dew Tour crowd for a weekend full of non-stop action.

Events Will Air Live on NBC Saturday, February 11 at 2:00PM EST and Sunday, February 12 at 3:00PM EST
