Simon Dumont, featured athlete in the Ski Channel’s new movie, Winter (Click here for upcoming tour dates.), will return to Sunday River Resort in Newry, Maine for the 4th Annual Dumont Cup in one of the world’s most prestigious slopestyle contests.  The event will take place at Sunday River’s Rocking Chair Terrain Park on March 23-24 on a course designed by Dumont himself.  It will air April 10, 2012 at 12:30PM EST on NBC as part of the Red Bull Signature Series.  For international fans, check out Red Bull’s website at

Elevated from a gold to a platinum status event by the Association of Freeskiing Professionals (AFP), the Dumont Cup’s importance to the sport has skyrocketed.  It is the first strictly slopestyle contest to be promoted to platinum and as such will allow both amateur and professional freeskiers to compete at the highest level.

“The Dumont Cup has exceeded all of my expectations,” says Dumont, 8-time X Games Medalist and World Record Holder. “It’s incredible that in the last four years this went from a contest we started to help skiers from New England get noticed to becoming the first slopestyle contest to get elevated to platinum by the AFP. I’m honored that the ski community would embrace this event so much.”

Competitors have come from as far away as Europe and throughout Canada to compete on the slopes in this small Maine town.  And it has been an exciting couple of years for Alex Schlopy and Nick Goepper who took home the coveted Dumont Cup and changed their amateur status to professional, launching their currently high profile careers soon after their prestigious wins.

Past professional freeskiers who have competed in the Dumont Cup alongside Simon Dumont include: Tom Wallisch, Gus Kenworthy, Peter Olenick, and Jossi Wells.

First, second, and third place finishers this year will each take home a generous award with $20,000 in cash and prizes are up for grabs.  Amateur skiers are also in the running for some great prizes from Dumont Cup sponsors.

Qualifiers will be held in two sessions on Friday, March 23 from 10A.M. until 4:30P.M, and the top 40 amateurs will advance to the semi-finals on Saturday, March 24.

Professional and amateur skiers compete along side each other during the semi-finals and finals. At the close of the two-day competition, judges choose the top three overall winners as well as a standout amateur.

Registration is now open to competitors. The price is $125 and includes a lift ticket. Space is limited.
