Since being buried alive for over 15 minutes in an avalanche while skiing the slopes of Lech Ski Area in Austria, Prince Johan Friso remains hospitalized in an Innsbruck Hospital. The Netherlands’ Royal Information Service released a statement detailing that Prince John remains in stable, but life-threatening conditions.

Doctors have stated that while it is still too early to tell, once they have a concrete understanding of the damage incurred while being trapped under the snow they will be able to provide additional details of Friso’s condition.

His mother, Queen Beatrix and wife, Princess Mabel have both been at his bedside every day since he was admitted to the hospital on February 17th.

Further reports have elaborated that one of Friso’s skiing companions survived being buried in the avalanche thanks to wearing an ABS-equipped backpack. The avalanche pack prevented the friend from being submerged, and allowed him to float above the surface of the flowing mass of snow.
