Whitefish Mountain Resort is gearing up for this Saturday’s 13th Annual Nate Chute Banked Slalom and Boardercross.  This event started out with simple beginnings but has morphed into a two-day competition and a newly added third day of fundraising that continues to grow in size and well-deserved reputation.

The money raised will be donated to the NC Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to helping troubled teens through programs in local school districts.  The company’s namesake, Nate Chute, was a young local snowboarder who committed suicide.  His friends continue to attend from all over the country, even years after the death of their comrade.

“Some events are famous for the pros who attend, others for the course itself, the Nate Chute continues to grow its field because it is an event that gives back,” Whitefish Mountain Resort Events Manager Josh Knight said. “Each year competitors have elevated the level of competition while still embracing the meaning behind it, sharing the culture of snowboarding with friends and family.”

This year, another snowboarder will be honored after his tragic death while riding in Chile in the summer of last year.  Aaron Robinson was a Nate Chute Banked Slalom and Boardercross regular.  He will be missed.

With everyone in the spirit of helping their fellow man, this competition in known for having a good vibe.  Between 3,000 acres of bowls, chutes, and glades on all aspects it’s no wonder why snowboarders enjoy competing here.  And if those aren’t enough of a reason, the lucky winners of the Pro/Open Class will receive $3,500! The overall winner of the Men’s Pro/Open Class will receive an entry to the 2013 Mt. Baker Banked Slalom and the 2013 Mt. Bachelor Dirksen Derby.
