It may be a bit later than they had hoped for, but Sierra Nevada resort operators are elated after a string of storms have produced the ultimate skiing conditions so far this season.
Just north of Lake Tahoe, the Boreal and Soda Springs resorts have reportedly received 6 to 8 feet from storms over the last week.
The Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley resorts also reported getting up to 4 feet of snow over a 24 hour period ending Saturday afternoon, for a total of nearly 7 feet of new snow over the last week.
The Heavenly resort on Tahoe’s south shore reports it’s now 100 percent open after receiving 2 to 4 feet of fresh powder Saturday.
The storms boosted the water content of the Tahoe basin’s snowpack to 48 percent of normal for the date. Bottom line: If you live in this area, we recommend you take a sick day and hit the slopes!
