Six Foreign Tourists Hit by Norway Avalanche

Reports are coming in from Oslo, Norway where an avalanche has hit a group of hikers traversing the slopes at Mt Sorbmegaisa in the north of Troms district. The group of 12 individuals hailing mostly from Switzerland and France were hit by an avalanche late in the afternoon on Monday.

At this time it is being reported that of the 12 skiers, one Frenchman and five Swiss were struck by the avalanche and trapped. Rescue crews are on the scene and have called for any and all resouces to uncover the victims. Both military and police helicopters have been dispatched to provide aerial support for recovery efforts on the ground. 

Police attorney Thorstein Skogvang stated that they are picking up four avalanche transmitter signals from beneath the snow. One of the skiers has been dug out alive, and two have been recovered dead. Rescuers are racing against time to recover the other three.
