Garrett Spencer, a Kansas State student has been identified as the skier killed this past weekend at Wolf Creek Ski Area. The 19 year old business major and novice skier was visiting the Colorado resort with three friends on Saturday. The group was skiing Kelly Boyce Run which is an easier tree-lined trail. At around 10:30am Spencer reportedly lost control and crashed into a tree — he was not wearing a helmet.

According to Fred Hosselkus, the Mineral County Sheriff, Spencer received almost immediate attention. A skier passing by the scene just so happened to be a nurse, and utilized her expertise to begin resuscitation efforts. The ski patrol was alerted and arrived shortly after. Responders initiated CPR all the way down the slope but were unsuccessful.

The Kansas State teen was pronounced dead at the scene.
