It is no secret that celebrity couples love sneaking away to the mountains for a little, and what is not to love? Navigating the slopes, exploring a charming ski town or just relaxing next to a fire with family and friends is the perfect recipe for a fun and memorable winter holiday for the famous and non-famous, alike!
In the latest celebrity sighting, avid skiers, Prince William and Kate Middleton checked in for a family vacation at the Three Valleys ski resort of Meribel in France just weeks after the duchess’s sister, Pippa, finished a 56-mile ski race in Sweden. They will be spending a few days of fun on the slopes with Kate’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, and her brother, James. It will undoubtedly be a welcome vacation following William’s return from a six-week tour of duty in The Falklands.
Privacy will be at a premium for the couple, as the whole family is settling into the same chalet. Sunday, an onlooker saw the group enjoying the views from on of the highest points at on Meribel, Col de la Loze. Another US Weekly source reported seeing the family dining on the slopes yesterday and looking happy and relaxed.
“This was a treat from Kate’s parents, as William and Kate’s budget is quite small for trips. It’s not the first time they have taken them away. They have all been to Meribel together before,” a source told US Weekly.
The Three Valleys ski area offers eight different resort options, Meribel being one of the most popular options. Meribel gives guests access to over 372 miles of piste and unlimited off-piste terrain. It’s easy to understand why this is one of the top British ski destinations. Stunning chalet-style wood and stone architecture fills the traditional villages in the valley below. A bi-weekly street market adds to the charm of the area. Ski in/ski out accommodations are available as well. One of the most frequented hot spots among the Brits is about a 10-minute walk from the city center and a five-minute bus ride to Mussillon, an area known for the infamous Dicks Tea Bar.
Meribel is an ideal home base to explore the Three Valleys area with easy access to the surrounding resorts including Courchevel, la Tania, Val Thorens and Les Menuires. If you’re looking for a quaint, European vacation on the slopes, take a cue from the royal family, and head to France!
