Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival Returns to Whistler

Telus World Ski and Snowboard Competition (TWSSF) is just around the corner, and Whistler is getting ready to party.  On April 13-22, athletes and spectators will rush to the resort for a ten day—and night—showcase of the most recent progressions in the ski and snowboard world. 

The event will combine the largest free outdoor concert in Canada with a thrilling display of action sports, and lifestyle fashion, photography and film, the best spring snow conditions, and nightlife that pushes into morning.  It’s a celebration of mountain culture and everything winter.

Here’s a list of free concerts taking place at the Main Stage in Skiers’ Plaza:

April 13 – The Dudes

April 14 – Swollen Members

April 15 – TinPan Orange, Cat Empire

April 16 – Half Moon Run, Tea Leaf Green

April 17 – Head of the Herd, Louder Than Love

April 18 – Ash Grunwald, The Beautiful Girls

April 19 – Eric Soloman, Dragonette

April 20 – Hairfarmers, Nine Mile, Michael Franti and Friends

April 21 – DJ Grandtheft, Longwalkshortdock

April 22 – The Sheepdogs

Daily concerts will run from 2:30-5:30 p.m. 

Filmmakers will be interested to know TWSSF will be host a 72hr Filmmaker Showdown and an action sports filmmaking competition.  If stills are more of your interests, check out the Pro Photographer Showdown.  The last day of the festival will showcase the winners and end the event with a DJ and dancing. 

There will be tons of arts and music events off the mountain to enjoy, but don’t forget about the fun to be had on the slopes!  Athletic affairs include a demo park, the Shred Show, and the World Skiing Invitational.  The Invitation will include Slopestyle, Superpipe, and Big Air.

All proceeds will go to Playground Builders, a non-profit that builds safe areas to play in for children in underprivileged or war-torn areas.  In the past three years, the TWSSF has donated over $28,000 to the cause.

Need lodging? Rooms are being offered at a discounted rate in honor of the occasion.  Guests can get a room or $99 per night of a combination of lodging and DayLift Tickets.  For three nights lodging and 2 DayLift Tickets is will cost just $79 per person per night.
