Mount Bachelor has just signed Sammy Carlson, one of freeskiing’s biggest names, to their team of sponsored athletes.
Carlson has racked up an impressive record in the eight years since he turned pro at the young age of 15. This 23-year-old took home slopestyle gold in last winter’s X-Games event and was the first person to ever land a switch triple rodeo 1260. He has also come in second in the 2007 and 2009 X-Games slopestyle, a first place finish at Freestyle.ch, second at Freestyle Berlin, and third at King of Style in 2011.
Born and raised in Oregon, Carlson will head back to his home state to train for the future competitive circuit that includes the Winter Dew Tour and X-Games events. He is also in the running for a coveted spot at the 2014 Olympic games in Sochi, as they’ve newly added a slopestyle event.
Carlson is no stranger to Mount Bachelor and has been out for early season training there for several seasons. And spring film shoots with Poor Boyz Productions.
In honor of their new team member, Mt. Bachelor will host the Sammy Carlson Invitational Saturday, May 19th, 2012. As a first-rate big air event, some of the best skiers in the world will be heading to Oregon to test their skills on a 100-foot big air jump to a 30-foot wall-ride feature to compete for the $20,000 case purse.
“It’s great to be working with Mt. Bachelor. I have been skiing there since I was a kid. I have some new ideas for the SCI this year and they are working with me to pull them off,” Carlson said.
While the event is invite-only for participants, everyone is welcome to come out and enjoy the show. The best place to get a glimpse is from the West Village Lodge and the Clearing Rock Bar.
