Good news for skiers and snowboarders who enjoy the blue skies and warm temperature of spring skiing and riding: Mammoth Mountain will be open every day through Memorial Day. Don’t bother looking it up. Memorial Day is Monday, May 28th.
The resort will consider extending operations from that point onward based on the conditions.
Mammoth is known for having some of the best spring skiing and riding, and they have remained open through Memorial Days in the past. And this year is no different. With over 70 inches of snow in March, and more on the way, the Eastern Sierra is shaping up to have ideal spring conditions.
“A series of March storms created the best conditions of the year and looking at the forecast they’re not done yet,” said Howard Pickett, CMO of Mammoth Mountain Ski Area. “Skiing and snowboarding on Memorial Day is practically a tradition in Mammoth and we look forward to continuing it this season.”
The official closing date has not been set, but guests have at least another two months to get out on the slopes. Several spring events will also be on the schedule.
Easter at Mammoth will take place April 7-8 and will offer fun for the whole family. On Saturday there will be a scavenger hunt on the mountain, a plethora of helmet-decorating supplies for the kids, and a visit from the Easter Bunny! Sunday morning will start off with a traditional Easter brunch—pancake decorating included—egg hunts, face painting, and loads of other fun activities.
Springfest is back on April 20-22 and is better than ever. The weekend will feature the eleventh annual Volcom Peanut Butter & Rail Jam Championships with some of the best up-and-coming snowboarders in the world fighting it out for the $20,000 cash purse.
Guests can also check out the Bro-Down Throwdown on April 22nd. This competition is for amateur riders and is no longer just for bros. With a new women’s division this year, ladies can compete for some of the cash and Skullcandy prizes as well. Neon Indian will be coming straight from Coachella to join in the Springfest fun with a performance at the Hyde Lounge that night. And no celebration weekend would be complete without an Annual Pond Skim and Party. The contest is open to the public, and costumes are encouraged.
The pros will take to the slopes on May 4-5 for the West Coast Invitational. Details of the event have not yet been posted, but there will be an all-star lineup, big parties, and loads of fun to be had by all.
Celebrate the possible end of the season on Memorial Day weekend with food and drink specials, après parties, contests, snow volleyball and more.
