The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) has named Michael Jaquet as the new Chief Marketing Officer. Jaquet has most recently served as a senior executive with CBS Sports network and is known throughout the sports industry as a ski marketing visionary. Bill Marolt, the USSA President and CEO detailed that Jaquet would be leading the organization’s sponsorship, licensing, suppliers and media sales and marketing as the U.S. Ski, Freeskiing and Snowboarding Teams move towards the upcoming Olympics in 2014.
While Jaquet was with CBS Sports Network he was the VP of Television and Properties Sales. He was responsible for overseeing the network’s sales department. Prior to his time in a suit and tie, Jaquet donned a one-piece and a bib throughout his early days as a cross-country ski racer and alpine skier in Sun Valley. He was a pioneer of the freeskiing movement and went on to found Freeze Magazine and later the U.S. Freeskiing Open. Jaquet then went on to head up marketing and sales development at TransWorld Media before heading into national broadcast sales in 2005 at College Sports Television where he rose into his most recent role. During that time, CSTV was re-branded as CBS Sports Network. Jaquet has been credited for his superior leadership and overseeing significant growth.
“The success of our organization has been based on individuals who bring a personal engagement and passion for what we do to support athletes,” said Marolt. “Michael brings a lifetime of passion as an athlete and an unquestioned track record of working across all aspects of sales, marketing and media management at a national level.”
With any sport company, sales and marketing support are integral to continued success. Thankfully, the USSA is an extremely easy sale! The organization’s athletes have led all nations in skiing and snowboarding winning 21 medals in Vancouver. With the conclusion of this most recent competitive season, a number of athletes are coming off highly successful tours with around a dozen or so season-long titles under their belts. These achievements are further complimented by the teams’ performances in new Olympic sports such as the recently established U.S. Freeskiing Program.
“I’ve always been passionate about winter sports and appreciate the opportunity to return to the industry and join the USSA,” said Jaquet. “The USSA is an innovative sports organization and I look forward to further building the brand and growing the various sales and marketing initiatives.”
Michael Jaquet is a dynamic figure in the sport industry and is joining one of the most dynamic snow sports organizations in the entire world. He and his family will be making the big move to Park City where he will hit the ground running in his new role at the USSA’s Center of Excellence in May. With some of the best athletes in the world and the best in the business backing them, the USSA is going to be making some serious moves as we get closer to Sochi 2014.
