Sheffield Ski Village suffered a devastating fire this past weekend. Reports indicated that a blaze broke out during the early hours of Sunday morning leading to massive destruction for the UK resort. The South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue were on the scene to fight the fire shortly before 1am.
While no one was hurt, the facilities were left in ruins. The fire affected Sheffield’s main building which includes the resort’s shop, boot room, reception area and recreation facilities.
“We are absolutely gutted,” said Vicky Lloyd, general manager of the Ski Village.
At this time, investigations into the direct cause of the fire are underway. Additional local coverage from the scene can be found at The Derbyshire Times.
After news of the distaster broke a flood of support came from fans of the Sheffield Ski Village. The resort has been home to a number of snow sports enthusiasts. Comments on the SSV Facebook Page included notes of condolences as well as calls for reconstruction efforts.
Hopefully the resort can rebuild and the employees who have lost their livelihood land on their feet.
