Its with a heavy heart that we bid farewell to Adam “MCA” Yauch of The Beastie Boys. The legendary artist was diagnosed with cancer in his salivary gland back in 2009. Since being diagnosed, the 47-year old had been fighting to beat the disease. Unfortunately, on Friday, May 4th the rapper and action sports enthusiast lost the battle and succumbed to the cancer.

Nasty Little Man, who do the Beastie Boys’ publicity, has released this statement.

“It is with great sadness that we confirm that musician, rapper, activist and director Adam “MCA” Yauch, founding member of Beastie Boys and also of the Milarepa Foundation that produced the Tibetan Freedom Concert benefits, and film production and distribution company Oscilloscope Laboratories, passed away in his native New York City this morning after a near-three-year battle with cancer. He was 47 years old.”

While he is best known throughout the world as the talented musician that valiantly crusaded for our right to party, Adam was also a passionate and talented snowboarder. During the earlyl 90′s MCA was even featured in a few snowboard films.

Since the news broke, the social sphere has been filled with Tweets and posts paying homage to the late-rapper. It seems like just about everyone in action sports jammed to The Beastie Boys.

Professional snowboarder Louie Vito tweeted, “RIP to MCA of the Beastie Boys. I grew up listening to them and they will always be one of my all time favorites!!”

Pro-BMX rider Rick Thorne tweeted “Rest in peace to one of the best — MCA. You inspired me and millions of others.”

Check out MCA shredding the slopes in AK. After watching the video you’ll agree with the sentiments of legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk,  ”Goodbye MCA, we will dearly miss your old-school flow.”

Here’s hoping that MCA is resting peacefully in Brooklyn. Thanks for all the music, it has made life a lot more fun.
