Whitefish LogoWhitefish Mountain Resort is getting ready for another fun-filled summer on Big Mountain with multiple new additions including new ziplines and bike trails.  And a new adventure park featuring an obstacle course.  Opening Day is set for Saturday, June 16, weather permitting. The mountain will be open daily through Labor Day, and Friday-Sunday through September 30.

“We are excited to enhance the summer experience here at Whitefish Mountain Resort with a new zip line, two new family-friendly activities and new downhill bike trails,” Whitefish Mountain Resort President Dan Graves said. “As we continue to invest in our summer activities we hope to welcome families to stay and play and enjoy all that the resort and the area have to offer.”

Montana’s longest Zip Line Tour will be even longer this summer with an additional zip line. Dubbed, “Inspiration” for its breathtaking view, the new dual-zip span will add 1,900 feet of flying to both the 7-Zip Tour and the 5-Zip Tour. After a ride on the resort’s new Bad Rock Lift, flyers will soar 200 feet above the forest and ski runs. Inspiration extends the 7-Zip Tour to over a mile of zip-lining in just under three hours.

The new Aerial Adventure Park is scheduled to open in August and will feature five courses ranging in difficulty from beginner to expert. Each course consists of different elements including suspended bridges, cable walkways, rolling elements, nets, ladders, trapezes, and other fun obstacles. Participants wear full-body harnesses and maneuver through each course independently.

“The Aerial Park will be an exciting new activity that will allow our guests to enjoy a forest experience on a new level,” Graves said. “The Aerial Park adds to our assortment of summer adventures to try while visiting our resort.”  Whitefish Mountain Resort is working on the new Aerial Park with Outdoor Ventures Group and is currently in the design phase. Construction will begin mid-June.

In addition to the new Aerial Park the resort will add a new activity for its younger visitors. Spidermonkey Mountain is a two-story tower kids can climb through on levels of nylon webbing and descend on a giant inflatable slide. Warning: this activity is highly addictive to young children and they may want to do it over and over again, which will improve coordination and strength while using energy.

Whitefish Mountain Resort is extremely excited to announce that pending U.S. Forest Service approval it will build two new top-to-bottom “freeride” (downhill only) mountain bike trails both of which will provide over 2,000 feet of vertical drop. These two new purpose-built, downhill trails and additional connector trails will add 4.6 miles of mountain biking to Big Mountain. These are expected to be open late summer/early fall.

Anticipating an increase in downhill mountain biking, Snow Ghost Outfitters in the Upper Village has added several of the new 2012 Kona Entourage downhill bikes to its fleet. In the Base Lodge guests will find additional square footage of retail space with the expansion of Base Lodge Traders.

Whitefish Mountain Resort also offers Scenic Lift Rides, the Alpine Slide and Walk in the Tree Tops, a guided nature tour that includes a bird’s eye view of the forest upon an elevated boardwalk. Hikers and huckleberry pickers enjoy the renowned Danny On Memorial Hiking Trail. The Summit House features the only mountain top dining in Montana and the Summit Nature Center, a fun place for families to explore with plenty of hands-on discovery to learn about the mountain environment. Whitefish Mountain Resort’s Base Lodge is a hub of activity and refreshment with the Base Lodge Café and Base Lodge Bar.

With all these activities available on the mountain, more than one day of fun may be required. Whitefish Mountain Resort offers some of the most affordable lodging in Northwest Montana with rooms starting at $75 per night. From its renowned value hotel, the Hibernation House, to vacation homes and everything in between, Whitefish Mountain Resort offers lodging for every budget.
