Boarding for Breast Cancer (B4BC) has been making big moves lately. Hot on the heels of last month’s expansion that created new offices in Toronto and New York, the non-profit organization announced a revamped line-up of athletes for their pro team. Ten riders hailing from the four pillars of board sports will take part in the organization’s new Be Healthy. Get Active. Ride! Campaign. The world-class team features professional snowboarders Elena Hight, Kimmy Fasani and Hana Beaman; skaters Mimi Knoop and Allysha Bergado; wakeboarder Tarah Mikacich and surfers Courtney Conlogue, Liz Clark, Sage Erickson and Malia Manuel.
B4BC is one of those great organizations that display the underlying humanistic nature of the action sports industry. For over fifteen years the organization has been committed to promoting a healthy, active lifestyle as the best means for breast cancer prevention. By joining forces with B4BC, these athletes have demonstrated their shared commitment to this incredibly important mission.
“We are so honored to have such wonderful athletes and role models representing B4BC,” said Erika Seward, executive director, B4BC. “These beautiful ladies embody the B4BC spirit of being your own advocate, following your passions, and living in a healthy, responsible way. Together, we look forward to collaborating on current and future projects that inspire and support young women, girls and those personally affected by breast cancer.”
A number of the B4BC team athletes met up last week in sunny California. The ladies further complimented the beautiful scenery in Malibu’s Leo Carrillo State Park and participated in a photo shoot for the Be Healthy. Get Active. Ride! Campaign. The initiative will make its debut in Fall 2012 as part of B4BC’s efforts during Breast Cancer Prevention Month, and will feature riders Conlogue, Erickson, Knoop, Bergado, Hight and Beaman.
Throughout the summer, B4BC team riders will be making appearances at number of high profile action sport events as part of the B4BC Outreach Experience. The goal of the tour will be to educate youths on breast health and cancer prevention. You can expect to see the B4BC crew at next month’s X Games in Los Angeles, July’s US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach and at various Warped Tour festival stops. Additional events and appearances are constantly in the works; you can stay abreast of all B4BC happening via Twitter and Facebook.
