Spring weather conditions following a low snowfall season has resulted in rapidly drying trails throughout Colorado’s Crested Butte Mountain Resort. The action sports enthusiasts are eager to make up for the lackluster winter with an activity-packed summer season! Fortunately, the weather has cooperated enough to satisfy these desires and will allow CBMR to begin summer operations early on June 9th and 10th! During this sneak preview weekend there will be hiking, mountain biking in the Evolution Bike Park and the Red Lady Express will open for scenic rides. Visitors will also be invited to play a few rounds of miniature golf and try out the resort’s zipline tours. The resort will officially open for summer on Saturday, June 16th with full operations continuing through Labor Day weekend.Crested Butte Biking

“The trails throughout the valley have been in great shape for a few weeks now,” says Ethan Mueller, VP and general manager for CBMR, “We wanted to celebrate the early start to summer in the Colorado Rockies, by opening a weekend early for guests who are looking to get to the high country and experience the exceptional spring conditions at the resort, in Crested Butte and throughout the Gunnison Valley.”

CBMR has gone through great lengths to continue growing their summer activity options. The list includes lift-served mountain biking, Specialized bike demos, scenic chair lift rides, hiking to the Peak of Crested Butte Mountain, guided zipline tours, kids’ day camp and the Adventure Park, with bungee trampolines, miniature golf, disc golf and a rock climbing wall.

New for this season at Crested Butte Mountain Resort is the Trailhead Tree House Playground. The playground is part of an ongoing partnership with the Trailhead Children’s Museum and several other community supporters. The structure will be crafted from an ancient fallen tree, hollowed out by a chainsaw and will be located next to CBMR’s Adventure Park. The Trailhead Tree House will be free for all to use and will see its grand opening on June 16th.

Further additions to the resort’s facilities include new bike trails in the Evolution Bike Park. The new intermediate downhill trail, which is planned to open in July, will be known as Frequency. It will feature intermediate berms and small jump features to give guests a progressive introduction to more advanced downhill mountain biking terrain.  The second trail has yet to be named and is hoping to be done later in the summer. It will run through the Gold Link area in tight wooded areas and also contain some excavated dirt sections for the more advanced rider. Terrain in the Evolution Bike Park has grown leaps and bounds over the years. Currently there are over 25 miles of trails throughout the resort, allowing riders of every ability opportunities to improve their skills and take their mountain biking to the next level.

Visitors traveling from afar to Crested Butte Mountain Resort can get in on some great lodging deals for the summer, with some rooms going for just $99 per night (plus resort fees and taxes). Those who book early can save 15% on CBMR lodging options, including condos and the slopeside Elevation Hotel and Spa.
