Summer (Off)Season for Winter Sports Athletes

Winter has finally come to a close in the Northern Hemisphere, marking the end to a stellar competitive season. For many professional skiers and snowboarders summer is time for them to let loose and enjoy some well-deserved rest and relaxation. Athletes use the time to recharge their batteries before getting ready for the next winter season. In the summer, many winter sports athletes are vacationing to exotic places, getting involved in other sports and resting up. The athletes who have a twitter account have been tweeting away to tell their followers where they are at and what they have been up to. After competing in the top winter sports events around the world, these athletes need a break just like the rest of us. 

Below you see how 15 of the top winter athletes enjoying their time off all around the world:

Lindsay Vonn is currently at the French Open of Tennis in Paris, as you can see in the photo above. Some may not realize, but Ms. Vonn is an avid fan of tennis. In looking back at the last season, there are few athletes more deserving of vacation than Lindsey Vonn. The alpine skiier was absolutely on fire this season, earning 12 race victories (five in Downhill, four in Super G, two in Giant Slalom, and one in Super Combined) in the 2012 season. 

Ellery Hollingsworth, Kimmy Fasani, Kelly Clark, Chris Benchelter, Gretchen Blieler and Pep Fujas were vacationing in Nicaragua. They all caught some waves under the sun.

Torin Yater-Wallace is in Colorado at his home relaxing. He recently tweeted over the last few days that he was playing soccer, working out at the gym, baking cookies, and walking his dog.    

Danny Kass is vacationing in Japan. He got a chance to see the Ancient Temple. 

Mike Riddle spent a few days in Kauai. He got a chance to see the Red Rock Waterfall in the Waimea Canyon. 

Keri Herman went rafting on the Colorado River. Also, as you can see below, she went to a Butterfly Pavilion.

Kristi Leskinen traveled to Scotland. She hiked up Ben Lomond and biked at Loch Katrine in the Scottish Highlands.

Gus Kenworthy and Bobby Brown went to Elitch Gardens Theme Park in Denver yesterday. Today, the two headed to the theatres to watch “Moonrise Kingdom”. 

Julia Mancuso is enjoying the beautiful weather and great waves out in Maui. Julia enjoyed a great World Cup season as well, with two victories (one in Super G and one in one in Parallel Slalom), two second place finishes (one in Downhill and one in Super G), and two third place finishes (one in Giant Slalom and one in Super G). As you can see, hard work pays off.
