Ski Industry Pioneer Ralph Markby Passes Away at 85

Ski industry pioneer and gardening guru Ralph Markby dies at age 85.

Markby was one of the founders of Treble Cone skifield and later joined the board of directors.

He had two books published. Snow Business in 2008a book on the New Zealand ski industry history, and Garden Plants for Central Otago in 2005.

In the mid-1950′s, Markby and a business partner set up office furniture company Metalon Products in Dunedin, NZ. 

He moved permanently from Dunedin to Wanaka around 1990 and had been living in Alexandra in recent months until he passed away.

Aaron is currently a senior at Indiana University majoring in Journalism with a minor in Kinesiology. He has been a sports writer for the last six years and has covered sports like basketball, football, golf, field hockey, volleyball, baseball, and many more. He is a better writer than Skier or Snowboarder at the moment.
