Ski Safari Graphic - SvenWhen the snow melts and thermals are replaced with bikinis, there’s a new way to get your winter fix.  Defiant Development released iPhone game in late April that will keep you entertained and dreaming in white until powder days are no longer a distant fantasy.  Ski Safari is the number one paid app in Australia and is rapidly gaining popularity among the rest of the world.

The adventure begins with a skier’s worst enemy, an avalanche.  The rush of snow throws mountain man Sven out of bed.  Sven sleeps with his skis on, so his plan, and your goal, is to out-ski the onslaught of snow.  You must save the poor skier by helping him safely move through hills, dips, launching pads, and other alpine obstacles that pop up in his path.

The controls are simple.  Tap.  Tap and hold.  Sven will be jumping and flipping past obstacles in no time.  Oh, and style points are literal here.  They count.  Bonuses are at every corner, daring you to ski off cabin roofs, collect coins, and slide off clouds—it’s a game; reach for the sky.  Along the way, Sven will come into contact with penguins, eagles, and yetis trying to outrun the snow alongside him.  If he’s careful, he can catch a ride on the back of one of the helpful creatures and put some more space between himself and certain death.

Ski Safari works on iPhones and iPads, but with the smaller screen, impending danger seems more immediate, always keeping you on your toes.  It is compatible with the iPhone 3Gs, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod touch (3rd and 4th generation), and iPad.  iOs 4.0 or later is required.

This game is 18.6 MB of fun and will have you comparing ski stories long into the summer months.  Rated five stars by almost 14,000 users, it seems to be as addicting as Angry Birds.  It’s an addicting, just-one-more-time kind of game.
