July 3rd Fireworks Display: For $10 per carload, visitors can enjoy Shawnee Mountain Ski Area’s annual Independence Day Celebration and Fireworks, which benefit the Shawnee Volunteer Fire Company. Shawnee will provide an outdoor DJ, a magic show, various food and craft vendors, and a Hickory Licks BBQ! “The Best Show in the Poconos” firework display will begin at dusk, approximately 9pm, presented by the Interstate Fireworks Display Company. July 14th and 15th Poconos’ Wurst Festival: To be frank, (get it, frank?) the Wurst Festival is a hearty carnival, just like Oktoberfest, but held in July! The festival will feature various Polka bands and German Oom Pa Pa bands, Polish and German dancers, craft vendors, and plenty of brews, brats and music! Get your German groove on!
August 18th Shawnee Mountain Mud Run: Duck tape your shoes to your feet, and prepare to get dirty! Mud runs are always the best, and they can be as intense as you want them to be. This 5K is great for anyone looking to get muddy, and for the more extreme competitors, it’s a challenge to claim first place. Costumes welcome! There will also be a Kidz Mini Mud Run for the little ones. Register now!
September 1st and 2nd Pocono Garlic Festival: Do you smell garlic? Fifty food vendors will be offering everything from garlic vinegar to garlic ice cream to garlic themed pottery and paintings. Visitors can also enjoy a showcase of local music and plenty of family activities.
September 22nd and 23rd Rodeo and Chili Cook-Off: After a few weeks of garlic entrées topped with garlic, your taste buds will crave something new. The chili cook-off kicks off just in time! If you think your chili has what it takes, fill out this entry form. Additionally, there will be a professional rodeo, sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association featuring pros from the First Frontier Circuit, competing for thousands of dollars.
October 6th and 7th Autumn Timber Festival: Have you ever wondered how lumberjacks manage to cut down such colossal trees? The Timber Festival features lumberjack demonstrations, chainsaw sculptures, live music, children’s activities and food and craft vendors. It also has a full show line-up, from magic shows to juggling shows to a dog dock jumping competition. Dog dock jumping is always entertaining. Those dogs reach surprising heights.
November 16th and 17th Art on the Mountain: Still haven’t found the perfect piece for above your mantel? This art show will feature twenty-two artists, each with their own artistic styles from painters to photographers to sculptors. The Shawnee Mountain Ski Shop will also be having a pre-season sale.
